For Detecting the Presence of
10/100/1000 Ethernet Signals
The ALM-2001 is normally used to sense the activity on a 10/100/1000Base-T
Ethernet port and provide an indication of an alarm condition when the port
is not active. Actual data does not need to be present since the ALM-2001
only senses signal levels (including negotiation signals) that may be
present. It does not decode the actual data itself. If no activity at all is
detected a red indicator LED on the unit begins to blink and an audible
beeper begins to sound. In addition, a set of separate normally open or
normally closed contacts are activated which can be used for the operation
of a remote device.
The ALM-2001 is connected to the Ethernet ports to be monitored by means of
standard CAT 5 or CAT 6 cables and RJ-45 type connectors. The unit may be
used in either a stand-alone mode or mounted to any of the RMP series of
rack mounting panels. An optional DIN rail adapter is also available.
Note that the ALM-2001 only detects activity on an RJ-45 port. It does not
detect any potential signal errors.
